Tuesday, June 30, 2009 Shanghai

This morning we had a fairly early call time. In the lobby, ready to go at 7:30 AM. Wake up calls were to be received at 6:00 AM.
Our first destination of the morning was the Silk Factory. Here we learned about silkworms and their life cycle. I thought it was interesting; other people did not share this same opinion. After walking through the mock factory, we were lead to a room for shopping! What a surprise, the opportunity to spend money.
From the Silk Factory, we headed to lunch at a Mongolian BBQ. It was pretty good. A lot like home, but with a little more flair.
After lunch we went to the Shanghai Museum. It was a building full of items throughout all of China’s history. It is hard to imagine that some of the items are dated 2000 BC
As we left the museum, a light rain started coming down. On our way to Shanghai Old Town (also known as Chinatown), the rain was coming down a bit harder. Coming off the bus, we are immediately hit with vendors selling umbrellas. Chinatown is a couple of streets filled with small shops and vendors!
Next we headed to Nanjing Street. This is a more upscale shopping center. Since it was raining fairly steady, our only goal was to get dinner. We went to Pizza Hut! Our last event of the day was ERA, Intersection in Time. This was a Chinese Acrobatics show. I think this one event is the highlight of the entire trip. ERA is a multimillion-dollar stunning acrobatic extravaganza. The most expensive stage-show ever produced in China. These people are amazing. If you ever visit Shanghai make sure that this show is on your schedule of things to do. Or buy the DVD here http://www.chinabooks.com/cart/product.php?productid=20717.
