The beds in Yangshuo are very hard. Think plywood with sheets on them. Today we had a departure time from the hotel at 7:30, but at 8:07 we are sitting on the bus waiting for the stragglers to arrive. Thus far, Guilin/Yangshuo is old time China with people working the land. Not the hustle and bustle of the big city. Real people doing real work to support their family.
We depart from Yangshuo with a destination of Shanghai. This requires a 1 ½ hour bus ride back to Guilin and the airport. This region is of the country is known for its scenery – gorgeous.
In Guilin, we stopped at Dr. Tea. Here we were treated to four different types of tea and told the benefits to each one After the tea tasting, we were given the opportunity to purchase the teas we just sampled. People went hog wild purchasing the tea.
Shanghai – the financial capital of China. Here you get 100 years of history rather than thousands as in other parts of the country. Shanghai presents the future of the country rather than the past. 17 million people live in Shanghai.
We were told that upon arrival in Shanghai we would go straight to the hotel and have some down time. Well, they tell us many things that are not true. Our plane was late so we had to go straight to dinner and then to a nighttime cruise.
Shanghai is famous for being a city with big buildings, the tour guide compared Shanghai to Chicago.
Food in this region is said to be sweeter and fresher than in other regions
After dinner, we went to the nighttime cruise. What a great time! You cruise around the city and the buildings are beautiful. We arrived at the hotel tonight about 9 PM. Very nice hotel, way to classy for us. We will be here for three nights.
